Two lightbulbs in Glemsford, Suffolk, cost the council £8000 to change – and it took three years to do it.

The official reason was a ‘G39’ health and safety issue. Or in layman’s terms, they were too close to power lines and trees.
Work on replacing the bulbs finally began yesterday, three years after the Church Hall and village green first plunged into darkness.
The whopping cost arose because the council insisted that the bulbs could only be changed and rewired at a safer location.
But the £8000 bill, which represents more than 10 per cent of the annual £70k budget of Suffolk County Council, will still seem outrageous to many.
However, the locals were just glad that there was finally some light at the end of the tunnel.
Frustrated resident Pauline Currie, 54, told the Daily Mail: ‘It has come as a great relief after all this time. I think particularly for the elderly residents around here it must be a tremendous feeling.
'It has really affected the quality of life of many locals for so many years, it is about time work has finally started.’
